Under this proramme the Somerset Rural Renaissance Partnership was allocated funds from the South West of England Regional Development Agency (SWRDA) to invest in projects that improved access to existing or new services.
This programme ran from early 2007 to March 31st 2008 and has now closed. During this time over £500,000 of investment was granted to over 20 smaller scale social and community projects that aimed to deliver new services in an innovative way or helped safeguard existing facilities by providing additional elements.
.
Most of these funds were available for spending on capital items – equipment or buildings to help deliver a new service.

We looked to prioritise projects that:
- Maximize the potential of existing resources and facilities within rural communities. This might include encouraging the use of village halls or shops harnessing the potential of ICT, or experimentation with innovative forms of local service delivery e.g. via local Learning Centres.
- Develop social enterprises as a means of developing and sustaining the services in the long term.
- Sustain and develop an appropriate range of local services in the rural areas. This might include advice or training services for individuals who are currently socially excluded (e.g. access to welfare benefits advice).
The programme has now closed . For
