PROJECT SUMMARY
This project will refurbish a disused warehouse in a former tannery building to provide studio spaces for lease to artists & craftspeople, complementary therapists and to other small-scale community-centred start-up businesses.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
The property at Lower Keyford, Frome is a Victorian tannery/warehouse (500 sq m/5,400 sq ft) arranged over three floors. The space is to be renovated to produce the “beinghuman” warehouse, creating studios & workshops for the applicant’s own use, and also for renting out to other businesses.
It is intended that the warehouse will incorporate 10 rentable workshop/studio/office spaces to be let to local small businesses in the cultural industries. There will also be a larger workshop space for holding educational & recreational workshops in the arts and creative industries.
The warehouse will have a reception area that also serves as a meeting room and showcase space for work, together with a kitchen. There will be a garden area to the side of the building, which may also be used for summer events and a garden to promote biodiversity in the space.
The warehouse will not only benefit the businesses renting the unit on a long term basis but will also benefit the wider community and businesses who will rent out the larger spaces on a short term, daily, or hourly basis and the wide range of the local community who attend workshops and events.
The project has a clear aim of providing studio space for artists and those in creative industries.
