PROJECT SUMMARY
This project aims to convert a former milking parlour and dairy into a catering kitchen.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Quantock Abbey Wine Cellars purchased farm buildings near Sparkford in August 2005. They consisted of three main barns and one silage clamp. They had previously been trading from two different sites, one in West Somerset and the other in Dorset. The reason for moving was to consolidate the business and enable expansion. The silage clamp became their new premises comprising wine warehouse and offices. Following the conversion of the silage clamp they opened in April 2006 and have already seen a favourable growth in the business.
They aim to convert the remaining three barns into units for rental by other small businesses which would maintain the life of the buildings for years to come as well as creating a small ‘business park’ of food & drink related businesses.
The Dairy
This building was considered the most suitable candidate for reuse at this time.
The applicant had been approached by a recent start-up catering company, currently operating from small premises including using village hall kitchens. They considered that the dairy would be ideal for their purpose.
The premises are ideally situated in that it is only five minutes from the A303. It offers an area of 53.75 square meters which will provide a full working kitchen for this Company.
